Therabody really outshone itself by revamping their new line of 4th generation Theragun, percussive massagers. The Theragun Prime massage gun is the basic of the three 4th generation models, apart from the Theragun Mini. However, it still packs an uncompromising performance when it comes to living up to Theragun’s elite name!
First Impression
We believe and aim to bring all the possible details to you in our Theragun Prime review. Apart from the outstanding of this massage gun, we found the device’s packaging a little incomplete as it doesn’t come with a hard carrying case. In fact, the Theragun Prime comes with a soft pouch to house the massager, attachments and charger. However, we feel that for the Theragun Prime best price, $299 to be precise, it should come with a hard carrying case.
Theragun Prime features the brand’s hallmark triangular structure that is widely synonymous with Theragun. The triangular shape provides multiple grip ergonomics and gives it a sturdy look and feel.
The gun is a matte-black, all plastic percussive massager. We would have loved it if Theragun featured a rubberized handle in the Prime. We do feel that that the price doesn’t justify the not-so-slick look of this massage gun.
Attachments
The Theragun Prime comes with a total of 4 attachment heads.
- The Dampener: this head is specifically used to target the tender and bony areas. Theragun Prime reviews by users have revealed that this attachment is overall an excellent option for casual massage.
- The Standard Ball: this head is a better option to work on large muscle groups like chest, arms, legs, etc.
- The Thumb: the Thumb is mainly use to work the lower back and trigger points.
- The Cone: the Theragun Prime reviews say that this head is the most effective one for pinpoint treatment. It can be used on hands and feet.
Specifications
Even though Theragun Prime appears to be quite similar to Elite and Pro, it is slightly smaller. It measures 8.9” x 6.3” x 2.9”, the perfect size for a small massage gun that doesn’t wear you out while using.
The ergonomics of this device are pretty good. When held, it feels well balanced and well built, which is a plus point. On the other hand, similar to its sibling models, this one does not feature a rotating arm, which we felt wasn’t necessary here.
Operation and Performance
The Theragun Prime is a simple device and easy to use. The power button works by long-pressing it turns it on and off. The five speed presets, 1750, 1900, 2100, 2200 and 2400 PPM, are shown with LED indicators. For extra efficiency, you can also connect your Prime to your phone through the Bluetooth app to show the force and speed of the device.
Stall Force
Stall force is the amount of pressure required to cease the massage gun’s motor to stop working when pressed against the body. The stall force is an important feature to look into as it will dictate the intensity of massage it can perform. Since most entry-level massage guns deliver a quick massage only, their stall force isn’t that high either.
Theragun Prime claims to have a stall force of 30lbs. Well, honestly, we would expect more for the price tag it comes with. Also, the 16mm amplitude isn’t much of great use since the stall force is so low. In fact, with the stall force of 30lbs., an amplitude of 12mm would be more than enough.
Overall, Theragun Prime is not an efficient device for deep muscle massages since it doesn’t cater to a more significant stall force.
Noise
Theragun claims that their 4th generation devices are quieter than the previous generation. And that is true, they have made some noticeable changes when it comes to the noise level of the latest generation massagers.
Theragun Prime is indeed quieter than its predecessor – Liv. But still, it is not the most silent. At 68-70dB, the Theragun Prime is louder than the powerful Theragun Elite.
Battery Life
The battery life of any massager plays a crucial role in determining the functionality of the device. Theragun Prime review would be incomplete without mentioning the battery life. This percussive massager features a non-replaceable battery with a performance of up to 2 hours straight.

The Final Thoughts on Theragun Prime
Theragun Prime is a good option for low intensive massages. And, if you are someone who is looking for a beginner level massage gun from a renowned brand like Theragun, then this is the one for you. And the Therabody app is a plus point since it guides you through using the massage gun efficiently and correctly.
However, there are a few drawbacks to this device. First and foremost, the stall force is relatively more minor for the price. Secondly, the device claims to perform for 2 hours, but that is not true. If you use the device at higher speeds, the battery will not last you for 2 hours. And, the non-replaceable battery is a significant disadvantage because you can’t keep a spare one on hand.
Theragun Elite is a more substantial option in the Theragun family.
