Hypervolt vs. Theragun: Which massager is the best?

Massages are usual for professional gym trainers, athletes like runners, cyclists, and basketball players, while for the rest of us, massages are still a luxury. The good news is that there are specially designed tools that mimic the effectiveness and sensation. And the even better news is – these devices are easy to use.

The Theragun and Hyperice are the two biggest name brands in the market of handheld massagers. The Hyperice Hypervolt and Theragun Pro are two of the best-selling recovery tools right now.

Handheld massage tools are like foam rollers with much more pressure, and studies have shown that these massage guns can help eliminate soreness. Both the Hypervolt and G3Pro are massage tools that use percussive therapy to warm you up and cool you down.

The two devices are similar in shape and weight, and they feature an easy-to-use on and off button. Each can be charged via a long cord, and both have a small indicator to indicate how much battery is left and when it needs to be charged.

To find out which massage gun, whether the Theragun Pro or the Hypervolt is the one for you, we have tested and compared the two, and here are our results.

Theragun Pro Massage Gun

Premium Technology

Now featuring Bluetooth and wireless charging, the Theragun PRO is in a class of its own when it comes to technology. The Theragun PRO uses Bluetooth that enables you to measure force, change speeds, follow on-screen usage guides and track session information. Also, the wireless charging feature makes it easier to charge your handheld massage gun.

Power Rating

First off, the Theragun Pro Professional Massager now offers 5 speeds. The older versions featured 2-speed modes. In addition, once you pair the Theragun PRO with your smartphone, you can also adjust the speed in any increment ranging from 1750-2400 through the app. Thus, this means that the speed level can be customized up to 5-speed intensities!

The addition of five-speed options is a phenomenal update. Level one, which provides 1750 percussions per minute, is excellent for people with slighter builds or areas of the body with less muscle density. Level five generates 2400 percussions per minute, which delivers that trademark Theragun power and is excellent for major muscle groups. Along with that, you also three more speed settings. There are enough options for you to find the perfect one.

Moreover, it is also now easier to leverage the power since they improved the shaft button's location, which makes the shaft is fully adjustable. After a simple click and push, it locks into place at any angle you wish.

Above all, you won't need to keep it in any one position for too long as its top-rated power works quickly. You also won't need to apply pressure into the device much while using it, as it is plenty powerful on its own.

Accessories

Firstly, the Theragun PRO comes in a brilliant case for its convenient portability. Secondly, the Theragun comes with six different attachment heads, similar to the Hypervolt except for the SUPERSOFT, damper, and wedge attachments, which effectively allow you to "step-down" the power of the massage for soft areas. This not only puts it on a level playing field when comparing the Hypervolt's lower speed options but in fact, the Theragun PRO's SUPERSOFT attachment is a huge advantage, as it allows you to treat your temples and other sensitive areas in a much gentler manner than any Hypervolt attachment can.

Battery Life

We noticed the Theragun lasts 150 minutes on one charge, but it comes with two batteries so that you can use it for up to 5 hours consecutively. However, since it is so high-powered, you probably won't need to use it for too long each session, so you will likely get lots of sessions out of each charge. Lastly, Theragun also sells additional batteries separately, so you can always buy more if you need to use them for longer than 5 hours consecutively.

Hyperice Hypervolt Massage Gun

Power Rating

While it is nice to have 3 different speed options, notably a lower level setting, the top power setting didn't quite match the power output of the Theragun. It was not as easy to apply for extended periods due to the grip style. While the raw power capability is still impressive, the full speed option required a lot of manual pressure to keep it targeted without bouncing around.

Accessory

First off, the Hypervolt includes four attachment heads, including a flat tip, round tip, bullet tip, and fork tip. Most importantly, they complement one another, and it is effortless to swap in and out between them during a massage session. Lastly, the Hypervolt does not come with a carrying case, which is a mild disappointment at its price point.

Battery Life

The Hypervolt lasts an incredible 2.5-3 hours on one charge. You can seriously use this for weeks without having to recharge it. You might not find backup batteries for this massage gun, but the long battery life makes up for it.

The Final Verdict

Upon testing the products from two leading massage gun brands, we have concluded that Theragun is the winner. The unique features of Theragun like Bluetooth and wireless charging, extraordinary power, quieter than ever, ergonomic grip, and smart portable case; make this massage gun stand out from the rest.
